Our Mission
The mission of The Cancer Network is to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ cancer survivors and those at risk by:
EDUCATING the LGBTQIA+ community about our increased cancer risks and the importance of screening and early detection.
TRAINING health care providers to offer more culturally-competent, safe and welcoming care.
ADVOCATING for LGBTQIA+ survivors in mainstream cancer organizations, the media and research.
Vision
Our vision is a world where LGBTQIA+ cancer survivors and those at risk are not only well-informed and supported but also empowered to lead healthier, happier lives. We aspire to see a future where: LGBTQIA+ individuals are proactively educated about their unique cancer risks, enabling them to take charge of their health with confidence.
Healthcare providers are fully embracing diversity and cultural competence, creating a healthcare system that is truly welcoming and inclusive.
The voices of LGBTQIA+ cancer survivors are a driving force for change, leading to a more equitable and understanding world of cancer care and research.
Pillars of Work
The Cancer Network is part of a larger ecosystem of healthcare, social support, and community based organizations working to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ people. Our part in this larger picture consists of the following pillars of work:
Direct Patient Services
including risk reduction campaigns, pre-/during/post-cancer resources, and support services.
Defending Public Health
by working collaboratively with strategic partners, advocating for policy change, and conducting surveillance activities
Training and Technical Assistance Services
geared towards healthcare professionals seeking education on LGBTQIA+ health, creating welcoming environments, the cancer continuum of care, and best practices for patient safety.
